Gospel

Mc 1, 21-28

First Reading

Dt 18, 15-20

1 5 The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you—from your fellow Israelites; you must listen to him. 1 6 This accords with what happened at Horeb in the day of the assembly. You asked the Lord your God: “Please do not make us hear the voice of the Lord our God anymore or see this great fire anymore lest we die.” 1 7 The Lord then said to me, “What they have said is good. 1 8 I will raise up a prophet like you for them from among their fellow Israelites. I will put my words in his mouth and he will speak to them whatever I command. 1 9 I will personally hold responsible anyone who then pays no attention to the words that prophet speaks in my name. 2 0 “But if any prophet presumes to speak anything in my name that I have not authorized him to speak, or speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die.

Second Reading

1Cor 7, 32-35

3 2 And I want you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. 3 3 But a married man is concerned about the things of the world, how to please his wife, 3 4 and he is divided. An unmarried woman or a virgin is concerned about the things of the Lord, to be holy both in body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the things of the world, how to please her husband. 3 5 I am saying this for your benefit, not to place a limitation on you, but so that without distraction you may give notable and constant service to the Lord.
