Daily Mass Readings for February 22, 2026: Gospel — Mt 4,1-11

⁷ The Lord God formed the man from the soil of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. ⁸ The Lord God planted an orchard in the east, in Eden; and there he placed the man he had formed. ⁹ The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow from the soil, every tree that was pleasing to look at and good for food. (Now the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil were in the middle of the orchard.) 3 :¹ Now the serpent was shrewder than any of the wild animals that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Is it really true that God said, ‘You must not eat from any tree of the orchard’?” ² The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit from the trees of the orchard; ³ but concerning the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the orchard God said, ‘You must not eat from it, and you must not touch it, or else you will die.’” ⁴ The serpent said to the woman, “Surely you will not die, ⁵ for God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will open and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” ⁶ When the woman saw that the tree produced fruit that was good for food, was attractive to the eye, and was desirable for making one wise, she took some of its fruit and ate it. She also gave some of it to her husband who was with her, and he ate it. ⁷ Then the eyes of both of them opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

1 ² So then, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all people because all sinned— 1 ³ for before the law was given, sin was in the world, but there is no accounting for sin when there is no law. 1 ⁴ Yet death reigned from Adam until Moses even over those who did not sin in the same way that Adam (who is a type of the coming one) transgressed. 1 ⁵ But the gracious gift is not like the transgression. For if the many died through the transgression of the one man, how much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one man Jesus Christ multiply to the many! 1 ⁶ And the gift is not like the one who sinned. For judgment, resulting from the one transgression, led to condemnation, but the gracious gift from the many failures led to justification. 1 ⁷ For if, by the transgression of the one man, death reigned through the one, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ! 1 ⁸ Consequently, just as condemnation for all people came through one transgression, so too through the one righteous act came righteousness leading to life for all people. 1 ⁹ For just as through the disobedience of the one man many were constituted sinners, so also through the obedience of one man many will be constituted righteous.
