1 0 The Lord again spoke to Ahaz: 1 1 “Ask for a confirming sign from the Lord your God. You can even ask for something miraculous.” 1 2 But Ahaz responded, “I don’t want to ask; I don’t want to put the Lord to a test.” 1 3 So Isaiah replied, “Pay attention, family of David. Do you consider it too insignificant to try the patience of men? Is that why you are also trying the patience of my God? 1 4 For this reason the Lord himself will give you a confirming sign. Look, this young woman is about to conceive and will give birth to a son. You, young woman, will name him Immanuel. 8 :1 0 Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted. Issue your orders, but they will not be executed! For God is with us!
Second Reading
Hb 10,4-10
4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. 5 So when he came into the world, he said,“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me. 6 Whole burnt offerings and sin-offerings you took no delight in. 7 Then I said, ‘Here I am: I have come—it is written of me in the scroll of the book—to do your will, O God.’” 8 When he says above, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sin-offerings you did not desire nor did you take delight in them” (which are offered according to the law), 9 then he says, “Here I am: I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first to establish the second. 1 0 By his will we have been made holy through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
