Daily Mass Readings for April 06, 2025: Gospel — Jo 8,1-11

1 ⁶ This is what the Lord says, the one who made a road through the sea, a pathway through the surging waters, 1 ⁷ the one who led chariots and horses to destruction, together with a mighty army. They fell down, never to rise again; they were extinguished, put out like a burning wick: 1 ⁸ “Don’t remember these earlier events; don’t recall these former events. 1 ⁹ “Look, I am about to do something new. Now it begins to happen! Do you not recognize it? Yes, I will make a road in the wilderness and paths in the wastelands. 2 ⁰ The wild animals honor me, the jackals and ostriches, because I put water in the wilderness and streams in the wastelands to quench the thirst of my chosen people, 2 ¹ the people whom I formed for myself, so they might praise me.

⁸ More than that, I now regard all things as liabilities compared to the far greater value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things —indeed, I regard them as dung!—that I may gain Christ ⁹ and be found in him, not because I have my own righteousness derived from the law, but because I have the righteousness that comes by way of Christ’s faithfulness—a righteousness from God that is in fact based on Christ’s faithfulness. 1 ⁰ My aim is to know him, to experience the power of his resurrection, to share in his sufferings, and to be like him in his death, 1 ¹ and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. 1 ² Not that I have already attained this—that is, I have not already been perfected—but I strive to lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus also laid hold of me. 1 ³ Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have attained this. Instead I am single-minded: Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead, 1 ⁴ with this goal in mind, I strive toward the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
