Gospel

Mt 9,9-13

First Reading

Os 6,3-6

3 So let us search for him! Let us seek to know the Lord! He will come to our rescue as certainly as the appearance of the dawn, as certainly as the winter rain comes, as certainly as the spring rain that waters the land. 4 What am I going to do with you, O Ephraim? What am I going to do with you, O Judah? For your faithfulness is as fleeting as the morning mist; it disappears as quickly as dawn’s dew. 5 Therefore, I will certainly cut you into pieces at the hands of the prophets; I will certainly kill you in fulfillment of my oracles of judgment, for my judgment will come forth like the light of the dawn. 6 For I delight in faithfulness, not simply in sacrifice; I delight in acknowledging God, not simply in whole burnt offerings.

Second Reading

Rm 4,18-25

1 8 Against hope Abraham believed in hope with the result that he became the father of many nations according to the pronouncement, “so will your descendants be.” 1 9 Without being weak in faith, he considered his own body as dead (because he was about one hundred years old) and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 2 0 He did not waver in unbelief about the promise of God but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God. 2 1 He was fully convinced that what God promised he was also able to do. 2 2 So indeed it was credited to Abraham as righteousness. 2 3 But the statement it was credited to him was not written only for Abraham’s sake, 2 4 but also for our sake, to whom it will be credited, those who believe in the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 2 5 He was given over because of our transgressions and was raised for the sake of our justification.
