Gospel

Mc 8, 27-35

First Reading

Is 50, 5-9a

5 The Sovereign Lord has spoken to me clearly; I have not rebelled, I have not turned back. 6 I offered my back to those who attacked, my jaws to those who tore out my beard; I did not hide my face from insults and spitting. 7 But the Sovereign Lord helps me, so I am not humiliated. For that reason I am steadfastly resolved; I know I will not be put to shame. 8 The one who vindicates me is close by. Who dares to argue with me? Let us confront each other! Who is my accuser? Let him challenge me! 9 Look, the Sovereign Lord helps me. Who dares to condemn me? Look, all of them will wear out like clothes; a moth will eat away at them.

Second Reading

Tg 2, 14-18

1 4 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can this kind of faith save him? 1 5 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacks daily food, 1 6 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm and eat well,” but you do not give them what the body needs, what good is it? 1 7 So also faith, if it does not have works, is dead being by itself. 1 8 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith without works and I will show you faith by my works.
